OPT 2006 Championship
In 2006, the OPT expanded the OPT Championship game from eight players to nine players. As like last year, before each regular tournament begins, $2 from each prize pot is removed and placed into the Championship Fund. For each of the four majors, $5 is placed into the Fund.
What's been thrown out from last year to this year:
- The four majors no longer award automatic bids into the OPT Championship
- There is no automatic spot for the person on top of the OPT Leaderboard
- There is no OPT Leaderboard Tournament
- There is no OPT Power Rankings Tournament
What's been added:
- The OPT 2006 Championship Points Board
- One more player to the OPT Championship (making the total players 9)
- The OPT Invitational
What does any of this mean?
- In 2006, the OPT Championship players are determined as follows:
- Players #1 - #8 on the OPT Championship Points Board are in the OPT Championship
- Players #9 - #24 on the OPT Championship Points Board are invited to play in the OPT Invitational at the end of the year. The winner of this tournament is the ninth player in the OPT Championshi
Why?
- This is probably the fairest way to do this now that our silly little home game has become a full blown poker league.
- This is also the easiest way to let everyone else know what's going on. No worrying about running 12 tournaments to get people into the game, and it's less confusing.
How are OPT Championship Points earned?
- It's part OPT Power Rankings, and Part OPT Leaderboard. Here's how it works:
- You get one point for playing, plus one point per person who is busted out before you. Example: in a 15 person game, if you finish in 15th place, you get 1 point. If you finish in 13th place, you get 3 points. If you win, you'd get 15 points.
- You get one point for every $1 you win
- Add the above two values together, and you get your OPT Championship point total.
Will there still be $10 majors? What's the point if there's no automatic bids anymore?
- The OPT will still run the 4 OPT Majors, they will still be $10. You are likely to win over $150 and gain over 25 points, meaning you'll have earned 175 OPT Championship points. This will go a long way to get you into the OPT Invitational at least, if not the OPT Championship outright.
- The loss of the automatic bid also prevents someone completely new coming in, winning the game, and we never see them again.
- And yes . . . you will still get a slick looking plaque for winning a major.
- (I'm a geek, did you expect anything less?)
