What is the Oregon Poker Tour?

The Oregon Poker Tour is a series of weekly and special poker tournaments held in and the areas around Oregon, Ohio, (NOTE: that means; the City of Oregon in the state of Ohio), concluding with the OPT Championship at the end of the year.  Each week, any number of players vie for prize money and fame (or basically bragging rights) as they attempt to bust every other player in a Texas Hold 'em freeze out tournament. The buy in for these games is $3.00.

Why does the Oregon Poker Tour exist?

The Oregon Poker Tour exists partially to cure to an obsession caused by watching the World Series of Poker on ESPN, the World Poker Tour on the Travel Channel, and movies like Rounders. However, the OPT has evolved into a great way for friends to hang out and create a great community of people. This is a competitive, but friendly game that's not all about the money.

What is the OPT Championship?

The OPT 2006 Championship is a single table game for the balance of the OPT Championship Fund. There are nine players in the OPT 2006 Championship game. The first eight players are determined by top eight sports of the OPT Championship Point Board. The ninth spot is played for in the OPT Invitational tournament. This tournament is open to spots 9 - 24 on the OPT Championship Point Board. The buy-in for the OPT Invitational is yet to be determined, but expect it to be no more than $3 and no less than $2 . . . so . . . either $2 or $3 . . .

What are the players in the OPT Championship playing for?

Every normal OPT tournament played, $2 is removed from the prize pool and placed into the OPT Championship Fund, and for every Major Tournament, $5 is removed from the prize pool and placed into the Fund. The OPT Championship is played for the total of this prize pool in the Winner-take-all final.

Wait . . . are there still going to be majors?

Yes, the OPT will still hold its four $10 games. These games will net the winner easily over 150 Championship points, which will go a long way in getting you into at the very least the OPT Invitational if not the OPT 2006 Championship outright. However, the Majors will no longer be an automatic ticket into the OPT Championship

Misc. Questions:

How is each tournament run?

Each OPT Tournament is run Freezout style. That is, you've given a set amount of tournament chips to stop, and once you lose them all, they are out of the tournament, and the tournament doesn't end until one player has all of the chips. Co-founder Dugan uses TheTournamentDirector software to run each tournament smoothly.

How often do the blinds go up?

Back in OPT 2003, the OPT used to raise blinds when someone busted out of the tournament. After realizing that wasn't exactly practical anymore, we started using a timer. Our blinds increase every 15 minutes for the normal games and every 30 minutes for the four Major Events.

What does Allez Cuisine mean and why does Dugan start every tournament with that phrase?

Allez Cuisine is the Chairman's call to battle on the Food Network show Iron Chef. Dugan loves this show. Dugan has a .wav file of the chairman screaming Allez Cuisine. Dugan uses this file. End of story.

Why aren't all of the chips the OPT uses the same style?

Well, because three different people bought poker chips for the OPT to use, and the different styles help us keep track of whose chips are whose. All that really matters is that we all have the same colors, so just go by that.
