April 30 2004
The final week of April brought
out one of the bigger prize pools the OPT had ever seen for its normal events.
First, fourteen players gathered at the house of Luke Shortridge. Last week,
OPT Co-founder Luke Shortridge gained the lead on the OPT Leader Board, holding
a $3.50 lead over the other Co-founder, Tim Dugan, and a $6.00 over OPT regular
Josh Cowan. Josh had used all of February and early March to vault himself
on top of the OPT, but the month of April had been quite the opposite for
him. With Josh being incredibly quiet for April, would he be able to regain
his top position in the last week of his worst month? Matt Gonzo, who after
busting a record breaking 10 people out of the April 9th second game had
been rather quiet himself afterwards. Would he rebound tonight? Jeff Hartman
was back in the mix, after taking the last three weeks off. With fourteen
total players, the game was up for grabs. Who would step up and take it?

Co-founder Dugan took the victory,
jumping back on top of the OPT Leader board.
The second game brought seventeen
people to the game, equaling the most players at an OPT event. Added to the
game was Cory Stevenson, who had won one game in each of the past two weeks.
Ray Welch called ahead and entered himself into the game, arriving fifteen
to twenty minutes after the start of the game. Could he come back from losing
his blinds without even being present to defend them? Or, would either of
the two OPT officers, Jerry and Chris, take the victory for themselves? The
winner was looking at a prize of over $35 while the player finishing in second
place would get $5 for his or her efforts. Who would reign supreme in this
game?

Showing up late wasn't enough to
keep this man from taking the tournament. Emily Bean
grabbed second place after going all-in blind because she "wanted to go home."
Unknown to her, she was dealt pocket
2's and beat two people with Ace-King offsuit, and King-Queen suited, tripling
up her chip stack. The game ended after another long OPT heads up battle.
